The British Empire was a group of countries, territories, and colonies that were controlled by the United Kingdom. It all started in the 16th Century and lasted for many, many centuries, until the mid-20th century. One of the most important parts of the British Empire was India, which was like the jewel in the crown of the empire. India was rich in resources and provided many goods, like tea, spices, and textiles, to the rest of the empire.
