Hello Kids, Welcome to KidsCast!!
You might be knowing that astronauts study the space by going there, but do you know exactly where do they go? Actually they go to the International Space Station (or ISS),
International Space Station is a hovercraft or a large spacecraft which was built by many countries together. In fact, this is a kind of flying or hovering Space Research Station. The countries which made the ISS were:

JAXA - Japan
Roscosmos - Russia
ESA - European Union
CSA - Canada
Its Importance:
Now you would be thinking what is the use of it? Answer to this question is that it is a space observatory (a place where astronomical bodies are observed), Laboratory (a place where researches and experiments are done) and factory. It was made so that emergency situaions like crashing of space craft could be prevented. In future it may be used for missions to go to Mars, Moon and Asteroids.
Current location of ISS |
International Space Station is also called ISS as a short form
General Details:
1. Length - 73.0 metres
2. Weight - 4,19,725 kilograms
3. Breadth - 109.0 metres
Facts Time:
Plus now this is kind of a Fun Facts Time. There are a few facts about the International Space Station:
2. ISS is the largest satellite like structure.
3. ISS is the largest floating artificial structure in the whole space.

When did it start:
The project of ISS started in early 1990's. Around 1998 the project was ready after assembly and was ready for launch. It was then when ISS was launched by the rocket Zarya of Russia.
The golden date was 20 November 1998, when it was successfully launched in the space which till now orbits in the low orbit of Earth. It is even regarded as one of the most successful projects done by man in the space history.
So children these were a few facts about the International Space Station, and yes, It would have been difficult for astronauts without ISS, wouldn't it!
