The Tallest Structure in The World – The Burj Khalifa



Hello Everyone! KidsCast! is back here with another Topic. Yes, that's right, The Burj Khalifa, the present tallest building ever! Let's go ahead and learn more about this Skyscraper.

Introduction

Burj Khalifa (Khalifa also spelt Khalīfah) is the Tallest Skyscraper in the World! It is Situated in one of the most Bustling cities, Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Burj Khalifa, which was known as Burj Dubai during Construction, was named after the leader of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khalifa ibn Zayed Al Nahyan. 

The Burj Khalifa took 6 Years to build! The building started on January 2004 and it was completed on January 4, 2010.
The Opening took place before the interior was completed.

Height:

An interesting fact is that the Spire can be seen from 95 Kilometers (60 miles) away. It's height is 828m (2,717ft). It has a total of 163 Floors and 2909 stairs. Isn't that amazing? It has been the tallest building in the world since 2009, displacing Taipei 101.

Features:

The Dubai Fountain:

Outside the structure, WET Enterprises designed a fountain system. It was built at the cost of 800 Million Dirhams (217 Million USD). It's illuminated by 6600 lights and 50 Colored projectors. The Length of this fabulous fountain is 270m (900ft). It can shoot water up to 150m (500 ft). The fountain is accompanied by Contemporary Arabic music and other music.

It has been declared the world's largest choreographed fountain.

Observation Deck:

On the 124th floor, an outdoor observation deck named At The Top is situated in The Burj Khalifa. It was opened on 5th January 2010. It was the world's highest observation deck when it opened.  





Burj Khalifa Park:

The Structure is surrounded by a 27 acre park. It was designed by the SWA Group. The park's design was based on the flower of the Hymenocallis, a desert plant. At the centre of the park, there is a water room, which is a series of pools and jet fountains.

The plants are watered by the building's cooling system. The system gives 68,000,000 L annually. 

Records:

The Burj Khalifa has set several world records, including:

  • Tallest existing structure: 829.8 m (2,722 ft) (previously KVLY-TV mast – 628.8 m or 2,063 ft)
  • Building with most floors: 163 (previously World Trade Center – 110)
  • World's highest elevator installation (situated inside a rod at the very top of the building)
  • World's highest installation of an aluminium and glass façade: 512 m (1,680 ft)
  • World's highest New Year display of fireworks.
  • World's largest light and sound show staged on a single building.


Thus, the Burj Khalifa had made history and still is one of the most amazing skyscrapers in the world! We should be glad that we, humans have succeeded in so much in intelligence that we are able to create so high skyscrapers!
