So, first things first, before coming to Seoul, the capital of Korea, we shall first talk about South Korea itself, right?

So, South Korea is a country in East Asia. The Seoul capital area, the fourth most populous metropolitan area in the world, has a population of 51.75 Million people. Alongside Seoul, Daegu, Busan, and Incheon are also considered the major cities.

The currency is KRW (₩), which is the Korean Republic Won.

About Seoul

As you all already know, Seoul is the capital of South Korea, it is also a huge metropolis. It is 605.2 km² in area. Its population is said to be 9.78 Million.

It is a perfect mixture of all anyone could ever ask for in a City. It has modern skyscrapers, high-tech subways, vibrant streets, and all sorts of Modern stuff, but it also has a special spark of tradition! Yup, you read it right, this Modern City is also known for its traditional culture, Buddhist Temples, Palaces, and Historical Sites.

History Of Seoul

The area now known as Seoul has been occupied by humans since the Paleolithic Age, but its history dates back to 18 BC.
As a result of the Korean War, Seoul changed hands four times between North Korean and South Korean forces, leaving the city largely destroyed after the war ended in 1950. Approximately 191,000 buildings, 55,000 houses, and 1,000 factories are estimated to have been destroyed.

The city was also known as
“Keijo” in Japanese, or “Gyeongseong” in Korean during 1910–1945, the time period when Japan ruled Korea.

Climate of Seoul

So, the climate of Seoul is a humid continental climate. The coldest is usually in the month of January, its mean temperature is around 26 °F (−3 °C), and the warmest is in usually August, which is around 78 °F (25 °C). The summers in Seoul are usually long, warm, and partly cloudy, whereas the winters are short, freezing, and usually clear.

Snowfall

Now, snowfalls in Seoul vary from month to month depending on the season. The snowiest part of the year occurs from December 26 to February 9, with snowfall of at least one inch. Seoul experiences the most snowfall in January, with an average of 1.1 inches!

It snows for around 25 days annually in Seoul, and well the snow can pile up to a depth of 3.1 inches, or you can say 78.7 millimeters. So, you can say that the snowfall in Seoul is pretty pleasant.

Culture and People

Korean culture is often said to be deeply influenced by the Buddhists, A 2005 Government survey says that a quarter of South Koreans identify as Buddhists.

It is said, that back in the 4th Century when South Korea was divided into three kingdoms i.e. Paekche, Koguryŏ, and Silla, the Chinese introduced Buddhism to them.

That was a little bit into the Religious side of Korea, now let us talk about the culture a bit. The traditional outfit in Korea is called 한복 (hanbok). It consists of a long-sleeved shirt and a long wide hemmed skirt. These are considered a little old-fashioned but to this date, it is still worn a lot in Korea on special days, days like weddings, thanksgiving et cetera.

Cuisine

And, now we get onto the delicious stuff, yes, the cuisine of South Korea! Now, the cuisine of Korea consists of a lot of Rice, vegetables, Seafood, and meat.  One of the most popular dishes are Kimchi, well Kimchi isn't practically a dish as a whole, but rather used as a side dish, Bibimbap, Ramyeon (Instant Noodles), Tteok-Bokki. In almost every dish in Korea you will see a similar ingredient, can you guys guess what is it? Well, it is the typical famous Asian food, Rice!

Another fact about Korea is that with every meal, side dishes are served. Some popular side dishes in Korea are:
