Antarctica - The Fact Story

 

Antarctica is an icy island which is so big, and is at the southernmost tip of the Earth. Thus, the South Pole is located at the center of the Antarctica continent. Yes, Antarctica is an Continent. As you can see in the picture above, it is really big. It is the 5th Largest Continent in the World. But you know, there is not much life here, that is, not much people live in Antarctica. Only people come here for research and exploration. There are only small mountains, icebergs, and thick ice here. Let us know more about Antarctica!

So above is the World Map, and you can see that Antarctica is at the most southern point. And on World Map it seems that it is Long, but it is actually kind of a circular shape, as you can see at the main picture at the starting of this Article. So this was all about Antarctica's general information. Now let us visit and check out Antarctica from inside, and see how is it.

After seeing this picture, you'll get more interested. It's just that it's so beautiful and peaceful. You can feel the coolness of continent after seeing this landscape. Anyway, back to theory, as we already told you, that Antarctica is full of ice, icy mountains, cold landscapes, and sea ice, which is the frozen sea or ocean water. So the landscape here is almost at the freezing point always. In summer also, the climate and weather is really cold. It is a really amazing fact, that there are no real countries in Antarctica, though many countries claim land on it. Plus, there are no permanent people living in Antarctica, as it is the coldest, driest, and windiest place on Earth. However, there is a surprise. Antarctica has really popular animals, which we really love. Let's discuss about them. 

Oh yes, we were talking about Penguins, which are the most popular animals, or more accurately they are "Birds", in Antarctica. Though they are flightless and cannot fly, they are wonderful creatures. They are more cute when they are babies. They are popular all over the world and people come to Antarctica from their countries just to see these creatures. But there are not only penguins living in Antarctica. There are Polar Bears, Seals, and Killer Whales (Orcas), which are also living in Antarctica. Now this was all about Animals in Antarctica. What about plants and trees? You would be wondering right? 

Because of the freezing and cold climate in Antarctica, there aren't any actual plants and trees.  In fact, there are no trees or shrubs in Antarctica. This is because there is almost no soil here. Only rocks, mountains and ice. However, only two flowering plants can grow in Antarctica. One of them is really known, and the name is: Antarctic Hair Grass. This is a type of grass growing in Antarctica, and the other flowering plant is: Antarctic Pearlwort. It is the other flowering plant which has beautiful yellow flowers. But except this two native plants, there aren't any other plants, shrubs or even trees in Antarctica. Anyway, now let us know about the people living in Antarctica. 

So as we also discussed earlier, that Antarctica has no permanent residents and population. People who live here are mostly explorers, and who research about the continent of Antarctica. Yes, many countries have sent many scientists, geologists and such people to study about Antarctica. And last but not the least, we would know about the South Pole, which is almost at the center of Antarctica. 

The South Pole is the Southernmost Tip of the Planet Earth! Yes, it is true. It is one of the two poles of the Earth. Well it is not actually a pole before as you can see in the picture, but the explorers made this pole to show that this is the South Pole, in Antarctica. In fact, the South Pole is almost even at the center of Antarctica.
