The Roman Empire

Hello Kids! Welcome to  KidsCast! again! Today we are going in past at that time where there was the rule of a huge empire. Can you guess? Most of you saw the title and yes its none other then the Roman Empire.

 Area Control:

As we introduced the empire was huge when it reached its success of height. Let us show you the exact territories controlled by the Roman Empire... Check out this map.

The Area covered by the Roman Empire

The modern day countries covered by the Roman Empire at that time were France, Portugal, Spain, Greece, Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Little parts of Russia and United Kingdom and Ukraine. Isn't it huge? Yes it is!

Establishment:
The empire was not huge at starting. It became after many years but first its estasblishment started from a small town in Italy. It was successfully established in 27 B.C. It was founded by Augustus Caesar, who had become the first emperor of the Roman Empire in 31 B.C.

Currency:
Roman Coins and Currency
As you all know how important is it to have a currency in any empire so even Roman Empire had there own currency. Actually a Roman Coin was not called a coin, it was called an Aureus. Most of them were made up of metals like copper, bronze, silver or gold and they were made under a process called Coin Minting. The word "minting" described manufacture of silver coins in Rome in around 269 BC near the temple of Juno Moneta goddess.

Capitals:
Every empire has a capital so even Roman Empire had...
The Empire kept shifting its capital for many years.
1. Rome - 27 B.C to 286 A.D.
2. Mediolanum - 286 A.D to 402 A.D.
3. Ravenna - 402 A.D to 476 A.D.
I didn't write further so don't think that Roman Empire ended here. Keep reading you will get to know why I stopped here.

East stay:
Many new empires started to emerge in these years. Roman empire now started to face threat from these because they kept invading the Roman empire. Another event in 212 B.C took place when emperor Callacala was murdered by Severan dynasty. Now the Roman Empire faced the Third Century Crisis. This image is of the invasions made on Roman Empire.

Is it complicated? Refer to the legend box in the map... Just see the colours and understand. Okay. So let's get back ,so these invasions were mainly by the Barbarian Tribes. Above mentioned came in the Barbarian tribes. Duing this crisis the Roman empire's economy was also hit with a huge impact but then Aurelian was made the emperor of the empire who then got the empire out of the crisis and restabilized the empire. Now you would say why did I write the heading 'East stay.' So as the invasions started on the Roman Empire the Romans started to shift towards east and thus the western Roman Empire started to reduce whereas the Eastern Roman Empire started to increase rapidly. Thus now the next two capitals of the empire were in the east and they were:
1.Nicomedia - 286 A.D to 330 A.D
2.Constaninople - 330 A.D to 1453 A.D
Roman Empire was now divided into two provinces again by death of Theodosius I - Western Roman Empire and Eastern Roman Empire. In around 290 A.D, under Diocletian's tetrarchy he had also divided the empire in two parts Eastern and Western Roman Empire amongst his sons Arcadius and Honorius. But after some years they were combined again.
Gradually now the Western Roman Empire started to decline and the left part in the Western Roman Empire was controlled by Rome and Eastern Roman Empire survived for around 1000 years even after the complete decline of Western Roman Empire. Eastern Roman Empire was controlled by Constantinople

Decline in East:
After around 1000 years the decline in Eastern Roman Empire also started. The final strong arm action was taken by the Ottoman Empire on 29 May 1453 when the Battle started for the eastern capital Constantinople. Emperor Constantine XI that day died in the battle which resulted in the collapse of the Eastern Roman Empire and hence the Roman Empire finally ended with the starting of the long rule of Ottoman Empire.

So kids, finally we have come to an end of this article. We will see you all later! Happy Learning!
