What is Communication?

Hello Kids? Are we audible? Hello? Oh wait, this is an article! Welcome to KidsCast! So kids, have you ever heard of the word Communication and wondered what it actually is? Well, sometimes when we talk to some people, that is communication, but when we chat or text or even email someone, that is also communication! Weird right? In a nutshell, what is Communication anyway? Let's understand this word in this article! So Lessgo!

What is Communication?
So kids, just imagine that you are talking to a friend, and talking about your favourite video games, songs or school maybe. Here, communication is happening. Thus, the simple answer to what is Communication is that Communication is the sharing of thoughts, information, or feelings. It is the way or act of giving, getting or sharing information, thoughts and feelings.

Thus, when you are talking to a friend, you are sharing him or her information, thoughts or feelings about your favourite games, songs or whatever you are talking about. Thus, communication is simply when you talk, listen or share or receive information. And do you know, when you are reading this article, still communication is happening? We are sharing information about communication, through communication! Isn't that amazing?

Why is Communication important?
Communication is used in our daily lives! When you ask your Mom or Dad or parents about something, communication occurs (happens)! When you talk to someone about anything, communication occurs! Without communication, we cannot tell others about our feelings and thoughts and cannot share any information. If there would be no communication, no one would be able to talk to each other! No one would be able to express their thoughts and emotions, and everyone would still be living in caves, hunting animals from forests!

Types of Communication:
There are three types of communication:
  • Verbal Communication
  • Non-Verbal Communication
  • Written Communication

In Verbal Communication, words and language is spoken aloud, and people communicate using words and language. For example, you talking to your friend, or parents saying something to you, or someone speaking on television, this is all verbal communication. This type of communication is also known as Spoken Communication.

In Non-Verbal Communication, people communicate using expressions, gestures, and body language, and in non-verbal communication, words and languages are not used and they are not said aloud. Instead, we use expressions, gestures and body language. For example, when you are sad and make a sad face, that shows that you are sad. And when you show a thumbs up, that means 'okay' and hence, this all is Non-verbal communication.

In Written Communication, people communicate while writing and reading. One big example of written communication is what is happening right now: You are reading our article! Other examples of written communication are Messaging, Sending Letters, Reading newspapers, Reading books, etc.

Now in written communication, why is reading newspapers and books also communication? We are not communicating in it, but just reading, right? Well, the answer to this is: The person who wrote the newspapers and books, writes whatever he wants to write, and when we read it, we are getting and receiving that information from the newspapers, books, or blogs. Thus, this is also written Communication!

Means of Communication:

Now, what are the means of communication? Means of Communication are the ways through which we can communicate, or simply the ways through which we communicate. There are many means of communication. Some of them are:

  • Talking
  • Letters
  • Email
  • Chatting or Messaging
  • SMS
  • Call
  • Television
  • Radio
  • Newspapers
  • Articles
  • Internet
  • Websites
Aren't there so many? This article is weird but still interesting! So, kids, we want you to take a break here! This is the end of this article! We hope you liked the article! See you soon, till then,
