Why does the Sun and Moon seem of the Same Size?

At that moment, the moon and the sun shared the sky! Oh, wait... Hey kids! Welcome back to KidsCast! And just before you came, we wondered, why do the sun and the moon seem or appear of the same size? Don't you wonder the same? Well, let's find the answer to it! Let's dive down!

Their Actual Sizes:

The above picture shows the actual sizes of our planet Earth, the Moon, and the Sun. You might not even see the moon in this picture! It is so small, as it is also very smaller than Earth too, and the Earth is very very smaller than the Sun. So taking the Moon and Sun together, the moon is very very very very very very (and a lot more very's) smaller than the Sun.

Despite this, the moon and our sun appear of the same size in the sky, if we compare them. Not exactly the same, but the moon looks a lot bigger and just a very little smaller than the sun. But in reality, we know that it is very very very very smaller than the Sun. So why do they appear of almost the same size in the sky, when we see both of them from the earth? Let us find out!

The Reason:

It is a very big coincidence, that the Sun is 400 times bigger than the Moon, but the Sun is also 400 times farther away from the Earth than the Moon! That is, the moon is very near to the earth, as compared to the sun, but the sun is also 400 times larger than the sun! Isn't it amazing? Due to this amazing coincidence of being 400 times bigger as well as 400 times farther away, the Sun and Moon seem of the same size in the sky!

So, friends! We now hope that we can brag to others about knowing why the sun and moon seem or appear of the same size, in the sky! See you soon! Bai-Bai!
