A New Planet? - Complete Story Planet X!
In January 2015, two scientists got interested in an unbelievable potential discovery- a New Planet in our own Solar System! This planet is said to exist even beyond Pluto. And the most shocking part: This planet is predicted to have a mass of 10 times more than our own Earth! But does this planet actually exist? If it does, why isn't it officially announced in the News worldwide? Let's dive into the topic to know!
The Potential Discovery:
There were two scientists at Caltech, Konstantin Batygin and Mike Brown, who were researching some mathematical and astronomical suggestions. In January 2015, these scientists found a major hint of the existence of a huge planet far away even beyond the dwarf planet of Pluto. This planet, for now, has been named Planet Nine or Planet X. Does this mean that our Solar System could have a new planet? Well, in short, Yes. However, there are a few things that we should consider and know, before getting too excited.
Planet X is not a certain confirmation that there is a specific planet. There have been no direct observations of Planet X by anyone for now, but from detailed mathematical modelling and prediction and computer simulators, we get to know that such a planet can exist. Thus it's not that there is any picture of this planet or scientists have seen it through a telescope or something, but the behavioural patterns in our Solar System lead to an idea with the scientists, as well as us, that there might be a planet just behind the orbits of Neptune and Pluto!
How do We know about It?
Now the question arises, how do we know that there can be this new planet in our Solar System? In other words, how do we know that it's there? Well, the answer to this is quite fascinating!
The astronomers studying the Kuiper Belt, which is the outermost ring-like set of objects, containing the various dwarf planets as well, noticed something strange. They studied and observed that some of the icy objects and dwarf planets tend to follow orbits in such a way that these orbits are clustered together.
After the scientists and astronomers analyzed these orbits and phenomena, they predicted that there might be some sort of a very large, previously unknown planet, even beyond Pluto! Their explanations state that the existence of this 'possible new planet' might be able to explain the weird orbits of those Kuiper objects.
But is it Really There?
We know what you're thinking... "Fine all about this unknown, possible and new planet, but is it really there? Does it really exist?" The answer for the existence of this planet lies deep down in the Mystery of Planet X. For now, there is no such confirmation for whether this planet really exists or not. In fact, some people even suggest that there can be some other kind of celestial object. Surprisingly, people are also predicting that there might be a black hole instead of a planet! Of course, this black hole would be small in size as compared to the normal black holes we already know.
But the hope doesn't stop here! Recall, that there's no such 'confirmation', but there's still hope! Scientists and astronomers have begun to use telescopes, computers and other stuff to confirm this planet by finding it. Because it is far far away from the sun, even beyond Pluto, hence finding this possible planet would be difficult, but not impossible!
You see, there are already a lot of studies and investigations going on, to confirm the existence of this planet. The two scientists who potentially discovered this possible planet, Batygin and Brown, in fact, publicly announced, "We'd love to find it!" showing interest in the potential discovery of Planet X. What do you think, is Planet X there for real? What if they actually confirmed its discovery by finding it in the future? Will there be a new member in the Solar System planets family?
HAPPY DISCOVERING!
