The core area or city of Venice is an island, which actually looks like floating areas of houses. This core city is connected to the mainland of Italy through a bridge (road), and to other islands via boats. One can only walk or do boating in this city, and cannot drive a vehicle, because there are no roads! Venice is also the capital city of Northern Italy's Veneto Region.
