Mars, the fourth planet from the Sun, is a planet named the "Miracle Planet". This planet is almost only desert. But something makes it special. Something which makes it a Miracle! So in this Article, we will discuss about some unknown yet amazing facts about Mars! Watch this Video about Mars, made by our KidsCast! YT Animation Makers!
As told in the Above video, Mars is classified as one of the most important planets of the Solar System. Also, scientists are researching more on this planet because of its amazing features and facts. So let us discuss these unknown yet amazing facts about the Red Planet - Mars!
- Mars is known for its red color, especially its soil. This soil is of red color because of a chemical compound called Iron oxide, also called as rust which is present in the soil of Mars.
- Mars has the tallest mountain ever known to mankind, named Olympus Mons. This mountain is actually a Shield Volcano, which might still be active. A shield Volcano is a volcano which is composed almost entirely of the fluid lava flows. Olympus Mons is 22 km (13.67 miles) from the surface and is almost 3 times higher from Mount Everest.
- Mars's gravity is known to be sufficient for the Human Body to adapt to. That means that humans can walk on Mars almost just like they do on Earth. For precise calculation, the Gravity of Mars is: 3.711 m/s².
- Mars has polar ice caps just like Earth has Arctic and Antarctica. These polar ice caps are permanent and one is at the north pole of Mars and one is at the south Pole of Mars. Mars Polar Ice Caps contains water ice and the CO2 ice (Carbon Dioxide Ice). The Carbon Dioxide Ice in these Polar ice caps is basically Dry Ice.
- Mars is believed to had been a water-rich planet, which dried up after a few years, and is desert today. This is believed because of a few hints and observations of dried rivers, as in the picture below.
- Scientists of NASA and JPL have recently sent a NASA rover named Perseverance Mars 2020 mission which will look for signs of ancient life on Mars, and will send NASA pictures so they can research on the same pictures.
