World's First Animal!
Hey kids! Welcome to another brilliant article from KidsCast! Have you ever wondered that before us, dogs, cats, lions, cows, and all the animals, which was the World's First Animal? Well, today, we are here to know about it! So let us begin!
About the World's First Animal:
The world's first animal was Dickinsonia. Dickinsonia is one of the first animals from marine life, and the picture above is not Dickinsonia but the cast of its fossil. It is now extinct, but we can still trace back to our beginning to this animal. Its primary type of animal is still unknown, but many scientists say it belongs to the group of fungi. Some scientists also say that it belongs to a kind of animal kingdom that is now extinct (or no more living).
Dickinsonia used to exist in the parts of the world which are now Australia, China, India, Russia, and Ukraine. It was a soft-bodied creature that moved along the sea bed and used to eat microbes and algae.
Its Structure:
Fossils of Dickinsonia are in the form of imprints and casts, on sandstone beds. These specimens can be as small as a few millimeters and can also be as long as one metre or so, being a few millimetres thick. The shape of these fossil casts is mostly oval, and just like a leaf's structure, it seems like it also has many branch structures. It is merely symmetrical and has many branches each of them being an isomer, and has a Head. It can also be very circular or sometimes even the shape of an egg.
Discovery of Dickinsonia:
Dickinsonia was first discovered in South Australia, by Reg Sprigg, an Australian geologist, and conservationist. He named the name Dickinsonia after Ben Dickinson, who was also an Australian geologist. Then additional discoveries were made in Russia, Ukraine, and India.
What is Unknown?
Even though we know about Dickinsonia and where it was found, we still have many things about it which are unknown. For example, we don't know its detailed definition, functions, and history. Scientists keep researching on this, and surely one day, we will find more information about it!
So, kids, this was all we know about the world's first animal. We hope you enjoyed this article! Stay tuned for more articles, and till then, Happy Learning!
