The History

Over St. Peter's grave in Rome, the Pope granted special privileges to certain churches and established the Vatican as the headquarters of the Catholic Church in the 4th Century. When the Papal court moved to France in 1309, the area became the site of Pilgrimage and Commerce.

The name, "Vatican" came from the name of an Etruscan Settlement, Vatica or Vaticum, which resided in the general area which Romans called Vaticanus, "Vatican Territory".

Climate:

Vatican city's climate is said to be the same as Rome's. It has Mediterranean Climate with cool winters and warm and hot summers. The temperatures can be around 2°C (35.6 °F) in January to highs of 30°C (86 °F) in July and August. The highest temperature measured was 40.7 °C (105.3 °F), on 2 August 2017 and 27 June 2022.

April, May, June, September, October, and early November, these months attract tourists to Vatican City, due to the Pleasant Weather. These months are said to be just the perfect time in the year to visit the country!

The Food

Vatican's main food style is pretty much the same as Rome, and well the Italians consider Vatican's cooking to be one of the best in the world! Traditionally, the Italians eat the seven dishes on New Year's eve, which includes eels, conchs, squid, and Lamb at Easter. Each of these meals includes a course of Pasta, classic Italian stuff, right?

It is common for visitors to begin their meal with an antipasto, or appetizer, followed by a small first course, and a second main course. Despite the lack of restaurants in Vatican City itself, the surrounding streets have a variety of dining options from street food to fine dining!
